25/03/2026 – Applied research – Biostimulation

The data is on the table. A trial carried out under real greenhouse production conditions in western Almería has shown that Vellsam’s combined biostimulation program increases cantaloupe melon yield by more than 14% compared with a conventional commercial treatment, without sacrificing fruit quality. Quite the opposite: quality improves too.
This result is not an isolated anecdote. It confirms that biostimulation, when applied strategically with the right products at the right moments of the cycle, can transform the productivity of a farm.
The trial was carried out on a cantaloupe melon crop (Cucumis melo L. var. cantalupensis), commercial variety Claudio, in a greenhouse in western Almería, transplanted on March 9, 2025. The area evaluated was 4,000 m², divided into two equal blocks: Vellsam treatment and a control with conventional fertilizer.
Data was collected at the end of the cycle, assessing production parameters (yield per m², number of fruits) and quality parameters (weight, rind thickness, ºBrix, firmness and ionic composition of the fruit juice).
| +14.24% yield increase | 5.06 kg/m2 with Vellsam treatment | +8% more ºBrix than the control |
The key to the result lies not in a single product, but in the synergistic combination of four bioactive solutions applied at the critical moments of the cycle:
| Maxivell Vital | Stimulates the physiological processes involved in fruit set. Applied before the introduction of beehives and 7 days later. |
| Boromolivell | Improves flower pollination and fertilization, maximizing fruiting potential. |
| Auxvell Vital | Induces the synthesis of natural auxins, supporting fruit set and fruit retention on the plant. |
| Osmovell Plus | Increases tolerance to abiotic stress, allowing the plant to maintain its productive capacity under environmental pressure. |
| Brixtoner Vital | Applied 8 days before harvest. Directs the plant’s resources towards organoleptic quality in the final ripening stage. |
The Vellsam treatment reached 5.06 kg/m² compared with 4.43 kg/m² in the control. The increase was due to a higher number of fruits per plant, not greater individual weight — confirming that biostimulation acted directly on flowering and fruit set.
The quality parameters showed equally notable results:
ºBrix: significantly higher in treated fruit, with greater sweetness and better organoleptic quality.
Potassium in fruit (K+): higher in treated fruit; potassium is directly involved in sugar transport during ripening.
Sodium (Na+): lower in treated fruit; a sign of better ionic selectivity in root uptake.
Electrical conductivity and pH: both higher in treated fruit, consistent with a higher solute concentration.
Firmness and rind thickness: no significant differences — the higher yield did not compromise post-harvest life.
| The Vellsam biostimulation program makes it possible to produce more fruit per unit area, with greater sweetness and a better nutritional profile, without compromising size, firmness or post-harvest life. |
The same approach can be adapted to other cucurbits such as watermelon, in which flowering, fruit set and fruit quality follow similar mechanisms. For more information, contact our technical team at info@vellsam.com.
